You may constantly scroll through endless miles of Pinterest and wonder, “If I pin it, will it ever happen?”

It’s a common trap- we see top-notch mounds of stuff, but we don’t know what we are aiming for in our search for the perfect living atmosphere. We know what we want, but we think either it’s too far out of reach because of money, or where we live, or we are just too lazy to do what it takes to save money while also building our dream home.

Weslie and I have a pretty rad mom. She’s cool enough to have taught us the knotty ropes of thrifting. We eagerly awaited weekends, imagining the plethora of treasures to be found in our neighborhood yard sales. If there’s anything I have learned over the years of shopping with my mom, it’s that loads of cash is not prerequisite to decorating the way you want. Vision and rose colored shades are all that are required, my friends. Okay… and a little money.

Most people could go into a thrift store and only see the knick-knacks and furniture in that initial setting; because it’s in a thrift store, it’s unappealing and automatically branded as trash. But the reality is that all of those room settings and DIY’s you pin could be put together solely with items found at thrift stores.

I will use my funky couches as the best example. There I was, sitting at work, contemplating my undying wish to have a nice couch and love seat for my living room. I had been searching high and low for something used on Facebook marketplace, I asked friends, neighbors; there was no way I could afford a brand new set of seating for our home. When all of the sudden, my pocket buzzes with a text from my mother-in-law. Low and behold, she had swung by Goodwill and saw these beauties listed for
$15 altogether.

Now, mind you, I am a HUGE Anthropologie addict. I’ve come to learn the art of spotting Anthro hacks and knock-offs through my thrifting. But this couch takes the cake for sure. I can’t count how many times I have aimlessly scrolled through the furniture section on Anthro’s website, only to yearn for their velvety-soft cushioned couches. And this replica, this…. VINTAGE ORIGINAL was just sitting there in the open for $15.

Many doubted me. My husband, being just one of many. But my vision did not falter. I could imagine it on my Homey board on Pinterest. It’s like I saw it before, just not in Goodwill. To my husband and a couple of other people, as I showed them pictures, they asked how on this millennially flat earth I could make a room accept these yellow monsters. Oh ye of little faith. These couches are now the complimenting factor to my otherwise neutral toned living room. The best part? They look as though they
have never been sat on. These are the type of couches that an older couple most likely put a plastic cover on and just left it there for ages. I’m telling you, these aren’t the only bright yellow treasures to find at thrift stores. There is an entire world of second-hand gold to explore! So many people either toss out things because it no longer fits their style, or they are moving, or they donate it from their grandparents’ leftover belongings.

Weslie and I are starting this blog to share something we love. Not only will we share with you ideas on things to look for while thrifting, how to spot good decor, or where to thrift, we will also show you our collection in action. It won’t be that difficult, seeing as how my entire apartment is furnished from thrifting. Your ideas are waiting to be acted upon.
